A MOTORIST has been arrested after an 11-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run collision.
The youngster was treated by paramedics at the scene of the incident in Beswick, Manchester, but died of his injuries in hospital. A grey VW Golf believed to be involved in the collision was found abandoned a short distance away. The collision occurred on Albert Street shortly after 6.10pm on Saturday.
A 31-year-old man later attended a police station and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The suspect remains in custody for questioning according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
Pc Karl Horner, of GMP's serious collision investigation unit, said: "This was a tragic incident in which a young boy lost his life, and my thoughts are with his family at this unimaginably difficult time.
"We have a man in custody but our inquiries continue as we work to establish the full circumstances which led to this collision.
