The UK hasn’t had the best luck at the Eurovision Song Contest in some recent years; nevertheless, many had high hopes that Lucie Jones would be the one to break our fate and get the nation in the continent’s musical good books once again.
And on Saturday night (13th May), the UK got its best position in six years as we came 15th out of 26 countries – and although Portugal’s Salvador Sobral walked away victorious, Lucie’s massive effort has not gone unnoticed, as she’s received heaps of praise. Go girl!
Lucie, who was first introduced to the public as a finalist on The X Factor in 2009, took to the stage in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev with original song Never Give Up on You during Saturday’s final.
Full of pyrotechnics, sparkles and big, belted notes, it was certainly a moment to remember – and fans clamoured to Twitter to let her know their thoughts.
‘Lucie Jones was brilliant. If she wins – it’s on merit. If she does badly – Brexit. #Eurovision’.
