TYPHOON MARIA is continuing to batter parts of Asia. Here is the damage update as Typhoon Maria wreaks havoc in east China.

More than 600,000 people were evacuated as the typhoon made landfall in the Fujian Province on Wednesday morning.

The eighth typhoon of the year hit at 9.10am GMT in Lianjiang County, in the eastern province.

Strong winds of up to 150 kilometres per hour at the storm’s eye broke fishing boats and damaged roads.

At least 30,000 fish farming cages in Sandu Town, Ningde City, were destroyed.

Around 2,000 trees were uprooted or damaged in Ningde City too, due to winds approaching speeds of 100km per hour.

The typhoon also battered a seaside road in Dayu Town, in east China's Zhejiang Province.

More than 270,000 people fled their homes in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, on Wednesday morning.

Nanchang railway reported more than 200 train cancellations due to the storm, according to Xinhua News.
