The car was destroyed and the road remains closed
Two people were taken to hospital after a car was destroyed after catching fire following a collision in Whiddon Down.
Fire crews from Chagford were called to the A3124 Whiddon Down just before 3pm on Tuesday.
The vehicle had caught fire following a collision, a fire service spokesman said.
Police said that two people were injured as a result of the collision and both went to hospital.
A spokesman added: “Police were called just before 2.45pm to reports of a car on fire on the A3124 at Spreyton.
“One male occupant was taken to Derriford Hospital and a driver was taken to RD&E.”
A fire service spokesman added: “Both occupants of the vehicle were clear prior to the crews arrival. On arrival, crews confirmed the vehicle well alight, and got to work putting the fire out using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one compressed air foam jet.
“The vehicle was completely destroyed, along with a small area of embankment. The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental and duty of care was left with the police."
The A3124 in both directions remains closed and there is very slow traffic due to vehicle fire between A382 Exeter Road (Whiddon Down) and Two Post Lane (Spreyton)..”
