PRESIDENT Donald Trump’s chosen candidate to join the US Supreme Court has been accused of carrying out a historic sexual assault on a 15-year-old girl, with Democrats calling for the appointment process to be delayed.
Christine Blasey Ford, a California based research psychologist, claimed Brett Kavanaugh assaulted her in the early 1980s when she was at high school.
In an interview with the Washington Post she claimed Mr Kavanaugh, now a leading judge, had pinned her to a bed and tried to remove her clothing.
The assault purportedly took place in 1982 when Ms Ford was 15 and Mr Kavanaugh was 17.
Last week Mr Kavanaugh said he “categorically and unequivocally” denies the allegations.
This came after elements of the allegations were made public in recent days, prior to the Washington Post interview.
