SIR Tom Jones’ estranged love child Jonathan Berkery has repeatedly spoken of his wish to have a relationship with his famous father - but why does the Welsh superstar refuse to have anything to do with him?
Jonathan Berkery, 30, was conceived after Sir Tom Jones had a three-day fling with model Katherine Berkery in October 1987. At the time, the music legend was married to long-term love Linda, with whom he had a son, Mark, born in 1957. Lothario Sir Tom, who admitted to sleeping with up to 250 women a year in his heyday, refused to acknowledge Jonathan as his son for years. He even denied the results of a court DNA test proving he was Jonathan’s father in 1989, only admitting to Jonathan's existence in 2008. This was despite him agreeing to pay £1,700 a month in maintenance fees until his son turned 18.
"If I had planned it, I would have done something more than just financially.
While the Delilah singer is worth $300 million (£235 million) according to Celebrity Net Worth, Jonathan was last known to be living in a shelter.
In July, he was in temporary accommodation in New Jersey, United States, while busking and earning £5.50 an hour as a shelf stacker.
He had been homeless on and off for numerous years, admitting to problems with drugs as a way to deal with the rejection.
Jonathan broke his silence again last year, saying he wanted to speak to his ageing father “before it’s too late”.
