Two drivers are due to appear in court after an accident involving an oil tanker on the M2.

Police were called to the London-bound carriageway between junctions 4 for Gillingham and 5 for Sittingbourne at 10.04am.

The 58-year-old driver of the fuel tanker has been issued with a court summons after being reported for careless driving.

Meanwhile, a 49-year-old woman will also appear in court after being reported for failing to have insurance.

South East Coast Ambulance Service were called to the accident following a report that several people had sustained injuries.

A van and another car were also involved in the collision with the oil tanker.

Officers attended the scene as well as firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, who laid out compressed air foam covering over the carriageway in case any fuel had spilt onto the road.

Everyone involved had got out of their vehicles on arrival and one woman was passed into the care of ambulance crews.
