The terrorist who mowed down and killed 14 people in Barcelona’s famous Las Ramblas in August has been secretly buried in an unmarked grave in Morocco.
Younes Abouyaaqoub, 22, was buried with his terrorist brother Houssaine in their native city of Mrirt at the request of their family.
Officials in Morocco are said to have approved the request but insisted the burial must take place without any publicity and their bodies laid in unmarked graves.
Their bodies were flown to Morocco from Spain on Tuesday before being immediately transferred to Mrirt, a town in Khenifra Province with a population of just over 35,000 people which is part of the Middle Atlas mountain range.
Police shot dead Younes in vineyards in Subirats an hour’s drive west of Barcelona after he went on the run following the Barcelona massacre.
He stabbed carjack victim Pau Perez to death to steal his Ford Focus and spark a five-day manhunt after mowing down his victims in a van on Las Ramblas on August 17.
British-born Julian Cadman, seven, was among those killed. More than 100 people were injured.
Abouyaaqoub shouted out Allahu Akbar - Allah is Greater - and pointed to a fake explosives belt around his waist before he was shot dead by police on August 21.
Houssaine was one of the five terrorists belonging to the same cell as his brother who were shot dead by police hours later in the nearby seaside resort of Cambrils after driving at high speed into pedestrians on a promenade before leaving their vehicle armed with axes and knives.
The 19-year-old was pictured hours before the outrage laughing and joking at a motorway service station as they giggled about the type of lighter they wanted to buy.
An innocent women died of her injuries after being hit by the terrorists’ Audi A3 car.
Spanish daily El Confidencial reported the siblings’ relatives were not present for the burial.
Moroccan papers have reported fellow terrorists Omar and Mohamed Hychami, who belonged to the same terror cell and were also from Mrirt, are expected to be buried in the coming days.
