Bollywood star and spiritual guru Durmeet Ram Rahim Singh is at a centre of a police investigation following allegations he convinced up to 400 men to get off their testicles to be closer to God.
The 47-year-old actor, known as the ‘guru in bling’, and worth $40 million, (RM 140 million) is alleged to have urged his followers to be castrated at his ashram in 2000.
India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said Singh was now being investigated for criminal intimidation and causing grievous bodily hurt, Sydney Morning Herald reported.
One victim, Hans Raj Chauhan, the first to speak publicly, has filed a complaint to court, claiming he was forced into having the “painful” operation at the popular spiritual organisation, named the Dera Sacha Sauda where Singh is the current leader.
Chauhan’s lawyer, Navikran Singh, said this week: “They were told that only those who get castrated will be able to meet God. “We will put all the facts of the case to the court and seek compensation for the victims.”
Rahim, who has 40 to 50 million followers around the world, was not available for comment.
He is currently shooting Bollywood film MSG:The Messenger where he is playing the lead role.
