There's no pain quite like being rejected, but these Reddit users are convinced their tales of unrequited love are in a league of their own.

The online community was asked about the most brutal rejection they've suffered – and their answers weren't pretty.

From disappearing on romantic getaways to ditching dates, these unlucky in love men and women have had it pretty rough.

One user explained that after two years of dating, he was convinced she was going to tell him that she was in love with him and wanted to take things to the next level.

Another woman was even more brutal, telling her partner that he had turned her into a lesbian.

One commenter was dumped when he was on holiday with his girlfriend – the trip he planned to propose on.

Another user was tricked into thinking their crush liked them back, writing: 'I had someone come up to me and say they liked me.

Ghosting, the act of suddenly ignoring someone's messages without giving an explanation, seemed to be pretty common on the message board.

Another agreed, writing: 'I totally understand it. A lot of guys can get super creepy and upset about being rejected, so it's better to go no contact, but damn...
