RACHEL RILEY, who is a maths whizz on Channel 4 show Countdown, hit out at an organisation who sent her a notification to sign a petition about Gilad Atzmon.
Rachel Riley, 32, shared a screen grab of a message which read: “Rachel, we’re missing your name. “Since you visited, this petition now has 3, 637 supporters.” A note in red followed reading: “Every signature helps - add your name today.” The campaign is titled “Hands Off Gilad Atzmon” with the description: “Islington Council in London has decided to prevent Gilad Atzmon from performing with the Blockheads on 21 December.
“This outrageous decision by the Council was in response to pressure from a single ardent pro-Israel campaigner who said he would not attend the concert if Gilad is on stage.
The lengthy message ends with: “We demand Islington Council to not succumb to pressure and bullying.
“Such an act will set a dangerous precedent against freedom of expression and art.”
Rachel shared a screenshot of the request to sign the petition, in which she commented: F*** you @ChangeOrgs I will not support a virulent antisemite. Sincerely, Rachel Riley.”
In response, Gilad Atzmon has robustly defended himself telling Express.co.uk: “I am an anti racist, not once in my entire life did I criticise Jews or anyone else as a people, ethnicity, race or biology.
“I have challenged those who attribute those labels to me to point once and for all where was I racist.
“All I receive in return is some Jewish outlets insisting that I am.. often the [sic] misquote me.. sometime [sic] even makeup quotes.”
Many of her 603,000 Twitter followers flocked to her page to comment on the post.
