Puppy rescued after getting stuck in a mud bank on Devon river

A 14-month-old puppy has been rescued after it got stuck in the mud at Vire Island in Totnes. Fire crews received a call reporting that a dog was stuck in mud at Vire Island at 5.56pm on Wednesdyam and one fire engine from Totnes along with the Specialist Rescue Team from Camels Head were sent to the scene.

A fire service spokesman said: "On arrival crews confirmed this was a 14-week-old lurcher cross Labrador puppy that had fallen eight feet down a mud bank on the river.

"Crews got to work rescuing the puppy using Dry Suits, 1 Triple Extension Ladder, and Throw Lines.
