PRIMARY school pupils were given a unique insight into life during the Second World War on an eye-opening school trip.

Children, from Leverhulme Primary School, in Breightmet, visited Stockport Air Raid Shelters as part of their studies into the era.

A total of 57 seven and eight year olds, took on the role of evacuees at the network of underground tunnels which are carved into the town’s natural sandstone cliffs.

Teacher Nicky Olive said the children ‘thoroughly enjoyed’ learning about the war and looked forward to returning.
