A "MEGA tsunami" could strike Britain and kill hundreds of people if the Cumbre Vieja volcano in La Palma, Canary Islands, explodes in a massive eruption, a top geologist has warned.
Bristol is most at risk, according to Mr Sparks, because the city's "unusual terrain" can cause a high tidal range, making residents vulnerable when a tsunami hits.
However, Prof Sparks said the event is highly unlikely in this century, because eruptions occur over a long period of time.
He said: "As a tsunami travels along narrow channels, like the one we have here in Bristol, it amplifies. The water has to move up.
