A couple have been seriously assaulted by a man who bashed them at their property in Perth's south.

Police are searching for a man who repeatedly punched a 71-year-old man in the head and face, knocking him to the ground, about 8:30am Sunday.

The man was assaulted after he disturbed the other man entering the boundary of his Oakford property.

A 64-year-old woman tried to intervene but was also punched in the head.

The attacker then assaulted the man again before pushing the woman into a garden bed and escaping in a black ute.

The man was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital where he was treated for serious head and facial injuries while the woman also remained in hospital suffering serious bruising.

Police asked for Oakford and Byford residents to check their CCTV, while motorists driving in the area were being asked to check their dash cameras for a black Ford ute and report any information to Crime Stoppers.
