Oscar hopeful Daniel Kaluuya bags top prize at Evening Standard Film Awards

Oscar nominee Daniel Kaluuya has won a top prize at the Evening Standard Film Awards.

The Get Out actor took home the best actor gong for his role as Chris Washington in the race satire, which has scored him an Academy Award nod.

God’s Own Country, Paddington 2 and The Party also took home big prizes at the ceremony at Claridge’s hotel.

God’s Own Country, a film about the relationship between a young farmer in Yorkshire and a Romanian migrant worker, was named best film, with star Gemma Jones winning best supporting actress.

Kristin Scott Thomas was named best actress for playing a politician hosting a dinner party in The Party, while writer and director Sally Potter was awarded the best screenplay prize.

Paddington 2 bagged the Peter Sellers award for comedy, while production designer Gary Williamson took the technical achievement award.

The best supporting actor prize went to Simon Russell Beale for comedy The Death Of Stalin, while Rungano Nyoni won breakthrough of the year for I Am Not A Witch.
