You might think one day of eating rubbish won’t have a impact on your body, just like a day of eating of eating vegetables won’t make you healthy.
But according to a new study in the journal Nutrients, one day of binge eating can have a big impact on your body.
Researchers gave 15 healthy volunteers a task where for one day only they would eat a diet full of delicious high fat foods – burgers, cheesecakes, the whole lot.
Then the volunteers measured their blood sugar and compared it to their levels pre-feast. They found that their insulin levels decreased by 28%.
Insulin insensitivity is important because it looks at how well the body’s cells absorb sugar from the blood and converts it into energy.
So if your sensitivity is diminished, your body needs more and more insulin to help the body absorb the sugar.
And your pancreas will eventually reach its limit and won’t be able to provide you with enough insulin to do the job.
