Nicola Sturgeon faces harsh criticism over NHS hospital bed crisis

SCOTTISH Tory leader Ruth Davidson has called on the First Minister for a moratorium on cuts to hospital beds after the loss of more than 2,000 in five years.

Last September there were 21,246 available hospital beds, down from 23,342 in September 2012.

There were also 38,465 social care places for elderly patients in 2013/14, but that’s now fallen to 37,746.

At First Minister’s Questions, Ms Davidson said: “People are waiting too long in A&E because there are no beds for them on wards, and because many of those hospital beds are taken up by patients who are waiting for their social care arrangements.
