MICHAEL McIntyre returns tonight for the last episode of his entertainment show, but did you know the comedian was close friends with his wife’s dad, Simon Ward?
Comedian Michael McIntyre has been in the business for a number of years, but despite this he reveals he still suffers from anxiety. The 42-year-old who is married to Kitty Ward and has two sons said even though he makes a living from standing up in front of a room full of people and making them laugh, he is riggled with self-doubt.
He revealed to the Sun he checks his wife’s texts to find out if her friend found him funny at one of his stand-up shows.
“I actually checked Kitty’s phone at about 3am to see if this woman - someone I barely know - thought I was funny or not,” the comedian said in 2012.
In the same interview McIntyre said he was “close friends” with his wife’s dad, the Young Winston actor Simon Ward.
The comedian said: “He was one of my closest friends. He would come to my gigs in the early days.
“I went through some of his old texts the other day and they were supportive on an insane level because he was just so articulate.”
The family were in Italy when they received a call to say Simon had taken a turn for the worse.
Simon had appeared in several films throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including The Three Musketeers and as Bishop Gardiner in The Tudors.
