THE MEGA Millions draw made one person a billionaire this week - but will we ever find out who the lucky winner is?
Close to £1.6 billion (£1.2 billion) was won by one ticket holder in the biggest US lottery jackpot ever for a single winner on Tuesday.
The individual beat the unlikely odds of one in 302.5 million to claim the grand prize, after weeks of the Mega Millions jackpot rolling over.
They can opt to have the total $1.537billion paid out over 30 years or take $877.8m in one lump cash sum.
US lottery officials say the ticket was bought in South Carolina and there has been huge interest in who the winner is.
Unless the lottery winner decides to reveal their identity, it is unlikely anyone will ever know who they are.
They need to come forward within 180 days of winning to claim their ticket but no-one has claimed the record-breaking prize as of yet.
Whoever the winner is they will need to seek legal representation in order to manage their sudden wealth.
As Mega Millions host John Crow said: “A million dollars in life changing. But a billion dollars is extraordinary.”
