Man, 32, is questioned after a woman in her 40s was raped on Weymouth seafront

A man is being questioned by police after a woman was raped on the Weymouth seafront in the early hours of the morning.

Sections of the iconic Dorset seaside resort, including a line of beach huts, were taped off by officers after the attack on a woman aged in her 40s at 4.15am today.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape after officers were called to the promenade in the seaside sailing town of Weymouth on Dorset's Jurassic Coast.

Officers are carrying out forensic work at the scene of the attack in The Esplanade.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: 'At around 4.15am today officers were called to The Esplanade in Weymouth following an allegation of a rape of a local woman aged in her 40s.

'A 32-year-old Weymouth man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and is assisting officers with their inquiries.
