The court heard that 18 window panes at Dawlish Baptist Church were allegedly smashed with a hammer
The trial of a 52-year-old woman accused of smashing windows at Dawlish Baptist Church has been adjourned.
Sheree Fox was due to attend Newton Abbot Magistrates’ Court on Monday, having been charged with destroying 18 panes of glass, valued at £500, at the church in Park Road, Dawlish, on September 18.
She had pleaded not guilty when the case came before magistrates in September, when it was adjourned for the trial.
The court heard on Monday that Fox was currently in custody at HM Prison Eastwood Park in Gloucestershire, having been convicted of an offence by magistrates in Wales on November 8.
Hearing that Fox had refused to attend Newton Abbot Magistrates’ Court, the trial proceeded in her absence on Monday, with a number of witness statements read aloud, until an urgent phone call revealed that staff at Eastwood Park were of the view that Fox had been unfit to attend.
The trial is now due to be heard at Newton Abbot Magistrates’ Court on January 8. Fox was granted unconditional bail.
