Prince Andrew BACKLASH: Labour students demand royal resigns over ‘insensitive’ comments

STUDENTS from a Labour group at Huddersfield University have demanded that Prince Andrew resigns from his position as Chancellor over his “blasé attitude” to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

Huddersfield Labour Students have slammed the Duke of York for his speech at the Pitch@Palace event in Abu Dhabi last month, when the Prince called for further links between the UK and Saudi Arabia.

The left-wing students branded Andrew’s comments “incredibly insensitive and inflammatory”, insisting he must resign from the position which he has held since 2015.

And the students accused the Prince of having a “lack of concern for acts of injustice”.

In a statement, the group said: “Huddersfield Labour Students condemns the comments made by the University of Huddersfield Chancellor Prince Andrew, the Duke of York at the recent Pitch@Palace event in Abu Dhabi in regards to seeking closer relations through investments with the facist Saudi Arabian regime.

“In the brutal extrajudicial murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi Arabian government have shown their contempt for the values on which we, both as a modern university and as a developed nation, should be seeking to promote around the world.”

Huddersfield Labour Students added: “The Duke’s blasé attitude… is, in the opinion of Huddersfield Labour Students, simply and plainly intolerable.”

The statement comes after Prince Andrew’s speech at the event for entrepreneurs in Abu Dhabi.

The Duke said: "It's hugely important for us to have partners in the region.
