The American Idol champ was recently married to Brandon Blackstock on Oct. 20. And although the singer recently had to turn down an offer to appear on American Idol as a judge due to tour obligations with Maroon 5, another big opportunity presented itself: motherhood.
On Nov. 19, the newlywed announced that she and her husband would be expecting their first child.
In a recent interview with Parade Magazine, the 31-year-old talked candidly about her current bliss and a few unexpected perks to motherhood.
'Everybody calls me fat all the time, so I can’t wait to have a reason, instead of everybody just being a jerk,' joked Clarkson.
However, the Since U Been Gone singer isn't too concerned about her pregnancy weight gain.
'I’ve never been Gisele Bündchen, so ain’t nobody expectin’ that! I like to set a low standard so people don’t expect a lot,' said the diva.
Excited about motherhood, Clarkson shared her thoughts on the latest addition to her family.
But it hasn't always been smooth sailing for Clarkson, as the crooner revealed that she had a hard time being single.
'I was single for almost seven years. Every Christmas, it was like, ‘Seriously, I’m still pathetically alone? Awesome. I’m still telling people I’m okay with it? I’m not,' admitted the singer.
In 2012, she met Blackstock, who was the son of her manager Narvel. Clarkson told Parade that before they began their courtship, Blackstock had a few concerns.
As soon as they started dating, she quickly realized that Blackstock was her Mr. Right. Prior to that, Clarkson didn't really have a lot of luck in the dating scene.
'I only had like three boyfriends my whole life before Brandon, and two of them were good, just not a good fit. I only had one real stinker that I wrote about and made a lot of money off of,' said Clarkson.
After year of dating, Blackstock popped the question. Clarkson revealed that her wedding day was an emotional day for both the bride and groom.
Clarkson's latest disc is the new holiday album Wrapped in Red, which hit stores on Oct. 25.
Parade Magazine's interview with Clarkson will appear on newstands on Sunday.
