A TWELVE-YEAR-OLD girl who flew from New York to meet her mother was held at Manchester Airport for nearly six hours as she was questioned, fingerprinted and barred from calling her family. Amelia Clemmings was released “on bail” but her US passport was seized and she was ordered to return to the airport next day and leave the country within 24 hours.
Ms Grant, said: “It’s terrible they did that to a 12-year-old girl. It has been very traumatic for her.
“She constantly talks about it. She says immigration officials told her I wasn’t available to pick her up and she begged them to let her talk to me. She cried and begged to go home. I was constantly going to the information desk to find out what was going on but I was told I couldn’t see her. She was so distressed and also very tired after an eight-hour flight.”
Her stepfather Christopher Passey, 46, said: “I’ve been told her lawyers claim the treatment was a serious breach of relevant laws.
