LUIS SUAREZ will take to the pitch to play for Uruguay against France in the World Cup 2018 tonight, and ahead of the match, it has emerged that the Barcelona striker has said meeting his wife Sofia Balbi prompted him to pursue his football career.
The 31-year-old married Sofia back in 2009, and currently has two children, seven-year-old Delfina and four-year-old Benjamin, with his spouse.
Last month, Luis Suarez announced he was expecting his third youngster with the 28-year-old on Twitter.
Now, it has emerged that the Uruguay star feels meeting the mother-of-two at the age of 15 helped to shape his football career.
In an unearthed interview long before the World Cup 2018, Suarez discussed how he wasn’t “on the path” he wanted while working as a street sweeper as a teenager.
“I was going out at night, I didn’t enjoy studying and I wasn’t dedicating myself to football.”
The former Liverpool favourite continued: “There were some people around me who were a bad influence…”
Luis went on to reminisce about how his life changed when he met his childhood sweetheart Sofia.
“She gave me a lot of confidence and helped me believe in myself,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the footballer previously told the Daily Mail about how meeting Sofia made the footballer realise his love for the sport.
