LONDON City Airport and nearby roads have been closed as police scramble to respond to an unexploded “World War Two bomb” discovered in the River Thames, Metropolitan Police have confirmed.
The ordinance was found during “pre-planned work” at the airport and was reported to police on Sunday morning.
In a statement, MET Police said: “Police are responding to a World War Two ordnance in the River Thames at George V Dock, E16.
“The ordinance was discovered as part of pre-planned work at London City Airport and reported to the police at 5.06am on Sunday, February 11.
“Specialist officers and the Royal Navy have attended and confirmed the nature of the device.
