Jury told club bouncer 'raped teenager after she went numb' at his flat

Former Oceana doorman Ben Pincombe, aged 25, denies taking advantage of woman

A bouncer at a nightclub raped a teenager whose body “went numb” at his flat after a night out, a jury has been told.

Ben Pincombe, then working at the old Oceana club in Plymouth, took advantage of the woman at his home in the early hours, the trial at Plymouth Crown Court heard.

The jury heard that she found she could not move after drinking a cup of tea and then the 25-year-old then raped the woman, the Plymouth Herald reports.

The complainant, aged 19 at the time, told police: “My whole body went numb, he picked me up and took me to the bedroom, took my clothes off apart from my underwear and had non-consensual sex with me.”

Pincombe, of Mount Gould Road, is on trial after denying rape that is alleged to have happened in June 2014.

Lee Bremridge, opening the case for the Crown Prosecution Service, said that an intimate examination of the complainant found traces of the defendant’s DNA.

He added: “It begs the question of how did his DNA get there if there was no sexual contact whatsoever.”

The barrister said: “He took advantage of her in his bedroom in the early hours of that Saturday morning.”

Mr Bremridge said that concerned friends called the teenager and Pincombe answered just after 5am. He told the friends to come and pick her up – and they found her unconscious on the bed in just her underwear.

The jury watched a recording of a video interview the woman gave to police two days after the night out.

She said she was out with friends that night, visiting several clubs, including Oceana at Barbican Leisure Park.

The woman said she met Pincombe, who was then working as a doorman at Oceana, and he asked to call her later in the night.

She added she was “six out of ten” on a scale of drunkenness and by about 4.30am did not want to stay out with friends at Cuba in North Hill.

The woman said just as she about to call a taxi, Pincombe called her and invited her around to his flat for a “cup of tea”. She added that she did not think it was “weird”.

She told the jury Pincombe picked her up and took her home, where they chatted.

She added that her body started to go numb and she could not move nor speak.

The witness said that the same thing had happened once before on a night out and she had to be taken home and put to bed.

She told the jury Pincombe took her to his bed, took off all but her bra and knickers and raped her, with her unable to move nor speak.
