Jamiroquai tease comeback with sample of first album in seven years

Automaton, the band's eighth album, is expected later this year, although the band have not yet confirmed a release date.

The British funk bank have announced a string of festival dates for later in the year and released a sample of a new music video.

It gives fans a preview of Automaton, the band's highly-anticipated eighth album expected later this year.

In the clip, posted on Jamiroquai's new Twitter page, singer Jay Kay - well known for his love of elaborate hats - can be seen wearing a neon helmet, walking through dark tunnels and sunny deserts.

Alongside the post, they wrote: "Coming to a planet near you... #Automaton."

The new album comes seven years after the release of the band's seventh album Rock Dust Light Star, which reached number seven in the UK charts.

Automaton does not yet have a release date or track list but is expected later this year.

The band have announced tour dates in Japan, South Korea and Europe from May to August, but have not confirmed any UK or Ireland dates.

Jamiroquai's debut album, Emergency On Planet Earth, was released in 1993 and was was the first of three of the band's albums to chart at number one.

One of the band's best-known tracks, Virtual Insanity, won four prizes at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards as well as a Grammy for Best Pop Performance.
