Halsey has spoken out about her experiences as a bisexual women, saying she is “working really hard to be a better representative of the LGBT community.”

“I spent the past year and the year before that working really hard to be a better representative of the LGBT community,” the singer said.

She added: “I’m a young, bisexual woman, and I’ve spent a large part of my life trying to validate myself — to my friends, to my family, to myself — trying to prove that who I love and how I feel is not a phase.”

“So I tried really hard to find the courage this year to write female pronouns into my music.”

Halsey also talked about the experiences of homeless LGBT young people, urging fans to help out at their local shelters.

“It’s estimated that up to 40 per cent of homeless youth are minors who are part of the LGBT community,” she said. “Many of them have been ostracised by their families and from their communities because people don’t agree with their [in finger quotes] ‘lifestyle’.”

“I beg you to go home and to check out your local homeless youth services and see if they offer anything targeted towards the LGBT youth. See how you can get involved.”

The singer has been famously outspoken about her sexuality since her rise to fame in 2015.

She has repeatedly released explicitly bisexual love songs, especially on her 2017 album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, such as “Strangers,” which she sang with bisexual Fifth Harmony star Lauren Jauregui, and “Bad at Love.”

She told executives: “I’m not putting an artist on this song unless they’re f***ing gay” – and she got her way.

On Twitter, she wrote: “So if I’m dating a guy I’m straight, and if I date a woman, I’m a lesbian.
