GEORGE HW Bush’s funeral is taking place today with Prince Charles among the thousands of people honouring the life and legacy of the former US president.
Five days after the 41st US president died, world leaders and diplomats have gathered in Washington DC to pay their respects at the state funeral. Among them there is Prince Charles, as confirmed yesterday morning by Clarence House. On Twitter, the royal palace wrote: “The Prince of Wales will attend the state funeral of former US President George HW Bush.
“The service will take place tomorrow at The National Cathedral in Washington.
In a statement shared on the Royal Family’s official website, she said: “It was with sadness that I learned of the death of President George HW Bush last night.
“He was also a patriot, serving his country with honour and distinction in Office and during the Second World War.
“Prince Philip and I remember our days in Texas in 1991 with great fondness.
“My thoughts and prayers are with President Bush’s family and the American people.”
The former US president, who was in office for just one term between 1989 and 1993, died on Friday at the age of 94.
The invitation-only funeral began at 4pm GMT (11am EST) and took place at the Washington National Cathedral.
