Facebook fired a security engineer who bragged to a woman on Tinder that he was able to use his access to gain private user information on the dating app.
The breach was first uncovered by a cybersecurity consultant, Jackie Stokes, who was sent the bizarre exchange between the alleged engineer and a woman he was supposedly speaking to on Tinder.
'We are investigating this as a matter of urgency,' Alex Stamos, Chief Security Officer at Facebook, said in a statement to NBC News.
Stokes said she was able to cross reference the engineer's profiles and find that he worked at Facebook. She also emphasized that she was not the one whose privacy was invaded by the engineer, according to NBC News.
Stokes told NBC that she was happy to see Facebook employees spoke with her directly, and promptly followed up on her information.
