The smell was 'overwhelming' according to police
A Brixham driver was pulled over by police after they noticed a strong smell of cannabis wafting from his car, magistrates have been told.
Jonathan Plummer, 27, was stopped in his BMW as part of a police road safety initiative in Torquay.
They noticed an ‘overwhelming’ smell of cannabis coming from his vehicle and pulled him over.
Inside was a large amount of herbal cannabis worth more than £2,000 on the streets. Police also found a quantity of the drug at his home in Haslam Road.
Plummer pleaded guilty to possession of 218g of the Class B drug when he appeared before magistrates in Newton Abbot.
Prosecutor Jo Clark said Plummer told police he bought the drugs in bulk a couple of times a year to save himself money.
Mervyn Williams, defending, said Plummer was a single man who worked hard for a living. He was an habitual user of cannabis and would spend about £2,000 a year on the drug. He said the defendant would keep it in his car.
