Dog units scour road near Exeter following police helicopter pursuit

A man has been detained after a police helicopter pursuit near Exeter, as police dog units scour the roadside for a package thrown from a car window.

Devon & Cornwall Police responded to a "failure to stop" at 10.05am on the A3052, heading towards Clyst St Mary.

The man's Mercedes failed to stop and a package was reportedly thrown from the window.

The National Police Air Service helicopter, based at Exeter Airport, tracked down the vehicle.

The Mercedes C180 was stopped near Westpoint Arena, and seized by officers. The man was detained and is now in Exeter custody.

Officers with dog units have been tasked with scouring the roadside for the package, which police at this stage believe to be cannabis.
