Dog sickness WARNING: Vet issues alert as nasty dog virus sweeps UK

A VET has warned dog owners of a painful bacteria infection spreading rapidly across the UK, urging pet lovers to take care of their animals.

He added: "They should wash and disinfect their dog's paws after going out walking in case they pick up anything on their feet."

Earlier this year, a deadly dog virus swept across the UK, with reported cases in Cumbria, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Northumbria.

The contagious disease, called Alabama Rot, killed dozens of dogs across Britain.

The virus attacks a dog's intestines, causing them to be unable to absorb vital nutrients.
