A YOUNG student was banned from wearing a poppy at school, after the head teacher insisted it broke the school's strict dress code.
Courtney Dougal, 13, was barred from wearing her large knitted poppy at her school, Great Yarmouth Charter Academy, after Headteacher Barry Smith demanded she remove the tribute.
He said the poppy was "too large", despite being less than half an inch bigger than the traditional paper poppy, claiming it went against the school's dress code.
Courtney's father, Raymond Dougal, was furious that his daughter's school banned her from wearing her poppy, which he picked up from his local pub The Sportsmans Arms, with all contributions going to the Royal British Legion.
He told the Daily Mail Online: "I am absolutely disgusted that they have made her take the poppy off. It is a little bit on the larger side but that is what makes it.
