DEATH OF THE HIGH STREET: ‘Stark’ outlook as online shopping hits home

CLOSE to two fifths of Britons are apathetic toward the high street according to new research, which was published just weeks after British retailers suffered major losses during the festive period.

UK retail sales has decreased by 0.7 percent on a like-for-like basis from December 2017, with retail giant John Lewis threatening to cut staff bonuses in light of declining sales. Now new research by a global affiliate network has shed some light on the reasons behind the death of our high streets when they found that as many as 39 percent of Britons would “not care” if all high street stores closed down. The study was carried out by Awin, who polled 2,386 people over the age of 18 as part of ongoing research into Britons’ shopping habits.
