It’s been a week since Cardi B threw her shoe at Nicki Minaj during the Harper’s Bazaar ICONS Party, and now the ‘Barbie Dreams’ rapper has dedicated her whole one hour Beats 1 show, Queen Radio, to discussing what exactly went down.
But we all know by now that Cardi doesn’t hold back when she’s ready to speak her mind, and rn she’s shutting down Nicki’s claims that she’s guilty of payola.
Payola is when a record company pays a radio station to have an artist’s music played without it being classified as sponsored content. It’s done under the table. It’s illegal.
Nicki used her time on the Beats 1 show to address the fight, saying: “I didn’t stop anyone’s bags. [Cardi B] had to say that because she has built her career of sympathy and payola.”
And Cardi hasn’t taken too well to being called out for illegal activity, posting two clap backs on Instagram.
First she dropped the figures for the bestselling albums of 2018, with the caption: “NUMBERS DONT F***IN LIE.” Showing that she hit the no.3 spot with 1.5million sales.
And then she lay down the metaphorical rap gauntlet with a video of her performing during her first tour, writing: “7/29/2016! NO LABEL ,NO RADIO PLAY,FRESH OUT OF LOVE AND HIP HOP.”
It’s emotional caps lock central as she added: "ONLY 200K IN MY BANK ACCOUNT ,MY FIRST TOUR !!!nobody can make you feel like you cheated yourself or you don’t deserve to be where you at when you KNOW YOU WORKED YOURSELF TO THE TOP !!! [sic]."
And then she finished up by thanking her fans for getting her to where she is today: “THANK YOU BARDIGANG !YOU BEEN HERE SINCE THE GET GO!"
Nicki may not have responded yet to Cardi’s clap backs, but she did retweet a video that labelled her a “pioneer for female rap” during a comparison of the two rappers.
