SAMMY Wilson of the Democratic Unionist Party said the UK should not be fear a no deal Brexit because the UK has a great opportunity to continue trading off WTO trade rules while speaking to Julia Hartley-Brewer.
The DUP's Sammy Wilson said that the UK should not be fearful of a no deal Brexit as the UK has a great opportunity to continue trading off WTO trade rules while speaking to Julia Hartley-Brewer. He said: “A no deal is not a catastrophe. A no deal would enable us to trade on World Trade Organisation terms.
“We do that with the rest of the world at present and we do it very well.
“We have trade surpluses with large parts of the world, we are expanding our trade with other parts of the world while our trade with the EU is declining.
“So why should we fear having to move to WTO terms, in fact, we should probably welcome that.
“Rather than a deal that ties us, unable to strike our own trade deals, still being tired to EU regulations and still being paying huge amounts of money to the EU.”
The DUP spokesperson said earlier today on the Today Programme that the DUP would not be supporting Theresa May’s deal unless severe issues with the backstop were addressed.
