Brexit could be POSTPONED if Theresa May deal rejected

It appears the UK would be unable to quit the customs union arrangement, also known as the backstop, without the consent of key EU figures.

Yesterday the Government was forced to release legal advice on its Brexit deal, after being found in contempt of Parliament.

The advice confirmed that Northern Ireland would effectively be part of a different customs arrangement to the rest of the UK under the backstop, and that the UK would struggle to withdraw from the backstop unilaterally.

The Government is said to be finding a way to give MPs a veto over the backstop arrangement, but there is no indication Brussels would accept this compromise.
