A video posted on YouTube has gone viral as it shows a baby born in a Brazilian hospital trying to walk just 20 minutes after birth. The video shows the baby held by a midwife and she comments that the baby is trying to walk while she is washing him after birth. The video has surprised many people but medical experts suggest that this is quite normal and is termed as ‘stepping reflex’. The baby is acting out of reflex which all babies are born with.
The 42-second long video shows the baby trying to walk while the midwife held her upright. As per medical experts, most babies will push and will seem like walking when they are held upright or their feet touch a solid surface. In certain conditions, this might seem as if the baby is trying to walk. The current video has left many people surprised as it has been presented as a baby trying to walk 20 minutes after being born.
The video has been shared more than 1.7 million times on Facebook with more than 75 million views. Arlete Arantes shared the video on Facebook.
A report published by Stuff NZ quoted Auckland pediatrician Anne Tait, “It's not a miracle. It's the stepping reflex, totally normal. I have seen that before and I have seen a crawling reflex as well. As a registrar many years ago I saw a baby actually crawl up a mother's belly to latch on to the breast.”
