BORIS JOHNSON has revealed the “simple” solution to ensure that a Brexit agreement is passed in the House of Commons after the Prime Minister was dealt a massive defeat over her Withdrawal Agreement.
Theresa May’s Brexit agreement was defeated by a historic by 432 votes to 202, with a majority of 230. Speaking on Channel 4 News, Boris Johnson revealed the “simple” solution to ensuring a Brexit agreement is passed in the House of Commons. The former foreign secretary said: “It shows Parliament when it is asked to can hold the executive to account in a very successful way.
“The House of Commons has shown that this deal is not right for the UK, we are a great country, a great economy, a great democracy.
“The problem with the deal is that it didn’t really allow us to take advantage of the opportunities of Brexit.”
He added: “There are a large number of MPs, if you listen to people like my brother, or across all sides of the House of Commons, we think the fundamental problem lies in this Irish backstop that keeps us locked the customs union and in the single market regulation, unless you are willing to cede effective control of Northern Ireland.
“That is obviously something that not any UK Government could do, so it is a trap.
“What we need, I think it is quite simple, is a voluntary exit from that backstop element.
