A man who died after a car accident in Ashford has been named locally as Lawrence Pearce.

A statement released by Ashford Rugby Football Club said it is believed that Mr Pearce passed away on Friday.

The statement read: "It is with great sadness and regret that we have to announce the death of a young man, Lawrence Pearce, who has been tragically killed in a car crash.

"He died at 8.30 on Friday morning after being on a life support machine.

"Lawrence played for many years through the junior age groups and many of his teammates and coaches are still very much involved with Ashford Rugby Club.

"All our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time."

It is believed that Mr Pearce was seriously injured after a crash on Hamstreet Road, between Bromley Green Road and Capel Road, on the morning of Monday, November 20.

It is thought that a silver Toyota Yaris, which was travelling towards Kingsnorth, crashed into a tree.

However officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit have not been able to establish the exact time of the crash and are appealing for anyone with information, or who may have seen something during the early hours, to get in touch as soon as possible.
