ANNE HEGERTY, who is a contestant on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2018, worked as a proofreader before her time on The Chase, but struggled to keep up with her bills and rent.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2018 Anne Hagerty, 60, who was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome - a form of Autism - at the age of 45, said it was difficult to juggle admin work with her previous job, which put her at risk of being homeless. She told the Stuff: “I just simply couldn't keep it going and the result was I wasn't paying my bills.” But refusing to give up hope, she added: “But I was trying not to go on benefits on the grounds that I just thought that was sort of giving up. I wasn't giving up." The news website added Anne was at risk of losing her home from the Housing Association because of the unpaid bills.
Reflecting on the time a staff member from the organisation visited her, she added: "She was stepping over piles of unopened mail and realised we had a problem.
Anne was then helped by another staff member, who she said secured her Disability Living Allowance and helped her get back on track.
Now, Anne is best known as The Governess on The Chase, which she joined in 2010.
But the quiz master admitted it is “difficult” being in the public eye.
She added: “It is difficult to go down the street without being recognised. It's weird and interesting."
Meanwhile, Anne is currently a contestant on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2018 and is a part of the yellow team.
