Ambulance destroyed in A380 fire

An ambulance has been destroyed by fir on the A380 near Kingsteignton.

Police, fire and ambulance crews are all attended the scene of the blaze just after 7pm that caused delays on the busy road.

Smoke could be seen from across South Devon because of the blaze near The Tenn Tors turn off.

It is believed there was a patient in the ambulance at the time and everyone managed to get out safely.

A representative of the Fire and Rescue Service said: "One fire appliance from Torquay, one from Newton Abbot and one from Teignmouth attended a private ambulance that had caught fire. Crews arrived on scene and confirmed the vehicle well alight, and got to work with 2 hose reel jets to put the fire out.

"Once the vehicle was extinguished, crews confirmed the vehicle was 100% destroyed by the fire. Crews used 4 breathing apparatus sets, 2 hose reel jets and small tools at the incident. The cause of the fire was deemed accidental. "
