One of the UK's pre-eminent playwrights will present an exhilarating homage to the health service in Prestatyn and Rhyl .
Filmed live at London’s Bridge Theatre during its limited run, Allelujah! is Bennett's tenth collaboration with award-winning director Nicholas Hytner.
Under a veneer of a charming, rousing singalong musical, Bennett's diagnosis is riddled with anger at the condition of NHS and the politics surrounding its future in 2018.
The musical takes place at 'the Beth', an old fashioned cradle-to-grave hospital serving a town on the edge of the Pennines, which is threatened with closure as part of an efficiency drive.
A documentary crew, eager to capture its fight for survival, follows the daily struggle to find beds on the Dusty Springfield Geriatric Ward - so named in a publicity stunt to keep the hospital alive - as well as the ironic triumphs of the cheery elderly patient's choir.
The playwright, author of many British classics including The Madness of George III and The History Boys latest work will will inject the public nostalgia for the service with a dose of his sharply subversive wit and caustic writing - while ultimately creating an oddly life affirming spectacle.
Tickets for Prestatyn are £15, available from merlinprestatyn.admit-one.eu and £19.54 for Rhyl, availble from myvue.com.
